Think of Cap’t Barefoot as Dr Who and the website as the Tardis. Every now and again the Cap’n and / or the Website regenerate.

Captain Barefoot’s Naturist Guide has been online since 1996. Until March 2006 it sat quite happily on a free hosting site called Yahoo/Geocities until it disappeared without notice.

It relaunched a few days later with two distinctive domain names: barefoot.info and capnbarefoot.info. The opportunity was taken to introduce a substantial and much-needed modernisation and redesign aimed at making it easier to read and navigate. Professional hosting cost money, and this was paid for by the introduction of Google Ads.

In 2009 the islands pages were relaunched again as a Wiki, designed to merge seamlessly with the homepage and the features page of the old site.

By 2024 the website was again in need of a refresh. There is no hiding the fact that the main site contains a lot of information that is badly out of date. What is more, the existing Wikidot platform is (arguably) on life support and is no longer stable.

in September 2024, the Cap’n regenerated. This website is now run by a new Cap’n who is moving across the existing information to a more modern and user-friendly website.

If you want to see a snapshot of previous incarnations (thanks to the Wayback machine), take a look here.

About the current Cap’n

Ahoy. My name is Andy. I’m a naturist and British Naturism (BN) member. I travel around with my Business (First Aid Training) and have looked for naturist-friendly accommodation. What there is, is sparse and the website guides are, in the main, pretty dated (including, at the time, this one). I was considering creating my own guide, then coincidentally my predecessor posted on the BN forum that he was looking for a new owner for the site. A Zoom and some emails later and I’m now the proud owner.

The future

I want to regenerate the website as it was, but with a more modern touch and a more user-friendly way of contributing. It will also be expanded beyond Greece, and also to accommodation. Whilst the old Cap’n spent a lot of time in Greece, if I get this right it can serve as a user-contributed guide to beaches across the World. Small steps first, though.

Help!

The site is desperate for up to date visit reports and photographs. If you would like to contribute, please do so. You can add a review to any existing listed beach or accommodation. If you want to review somewhere not listed you can request for it to be added.
