Mission: The Captain’s Grand Day out to cross Fuerteventura by foot

This Captain had never undertaken a naked distance walk before. In September 2025 he was staying at BHH in Fuerteventura ‘researching’ beaches in the area for this website and the owner, Karie, suggested he might want to walk across the island to the West Coast – and that he could do it clothes-free.
Fuerteventura is at its narrowest at this point, just over 4Km / 2.5 miles wide as the crow flies. With no roads or properties to get in the way it seemed like a very nice way of passing some time. Directly across from Costa Calma are some scattered beaches, and the Captain decided to make for Playa de Agua Liques.
Nanny mode On: Whilst it isn’t far and navigation is straightforward, take the obvious precautions – stout shoes, suncream, hat and plenty of water. You will not be able to top any of that up on the route. There is nothing, nil, zip, nada. Carry what you think you need and make sure your ‘phone is charged. Nanny mode Off.
As you can see from the map above, head off North West from Costa Calma. If you get it correct, you will find the tunnel under the FV-2 Road to the West of the Club Hotel Drago Park. You can strip off anywhere around here. The Captain did so after crossing the road on the way out, and on the Hotel side on the way back.
From there, head for the derelict buildings. Pass them to the left and you will encounter what looks like a dried-up river bed. The Captain followed this for 20-30 minutes. The bed was set to pass to the North of Playa de Agua Liques but he encountered the makings of a path that went left (almost due West) in the correct direction and took that.

It is interesting to note that the entirety of the walk was sandy with millions of shells spread out, indicating that at one point, despite being so high up, this area was actually the sea bed.
Every now and again he stumbled across a cairn of rocks, that gave him confidence he was on the right track. That and Google Maps.
Eventually he was met by this welcome sight and ten minutes later was on the coast – following in the footsteps & paw prints of others by all accounts.

The West Coast of Fuerteventura is in complete contrast to the sheltered East. It is a rocky coast with vigorous seas and totally unsuitable for swimming or surfing. You would get dashed onto the rocks. There is very little sand on the shoreline, despite the above appearance; it is mostly rock.
At some point the Fuerteventura Tourist Board has sent a gang across and they have blasted a crude, but effective path along the coastline. The Captain followed it for some distance both ways. It gets a little tricky in paces, so you do need to be sure-footed, but it does make it much more accessible.
The Captain did find a small oasis of a beach:

but mostly it was wild and rugged and with spectacular views.

Conclusion: Absolutely worth the walk (about an hour each way and the Captain met no-one on the walk itself). There were a few groups exploring the Coastline once he reached the other side. It’s great for clearing the head and you can capture some great photographs if you are so inclined. Oh and the Captain was very chuffed completing his first naked walk here, rather than some cold bit of the Ridgeway in Blighty.
