There is not that much in the way of cultural activities close by – Bordeaux is an hour away, and it’s about half an hour to resorts like Andernos les Bains on the Bassin d’Arcachon – so perhaps not an ideal site if you love monuments, museums and posh restaurants, but if you are looking for a beautiful beach, walks or rides under the pine trees or even naturist golf, La Jenny is perfect.

Large well-run site – chalets only, not tents or caravans, so a bit pricier, but a great site next to the sea that doesn’t feel as huge and impersonal as Arna. The twice-weekly market is a real highlight, with fresh meat, fish and cheese – and oysters! – on site. Fairly remote from big attractions – if you want bikes, hire them in advance (there weren’t any left when we arrived). If you’re there in high summer, the roads down to Lège-Cap Ferret are very busy, so you would be better off on a bike. A decent base for Bordeaux and the Médoc but relatively few blockbuster sights nearby.
