Cayton Bay is a designated naturist beach in North Yorkshire a few miles to the South of Scarborough just off the A165 Bridlington Road. It is at the North end of a long, sandy beach.
There is a rocky outcrop between the entrance to the beach and the naturist section. Don’t get caught by the incoming tide, otherwise you will need to get wet, or scramble over the rocks, even though the beach on both sides is accessible for a lot longer. Don’t ask the Cap’n how he knows…
The beach itself is a good, sandy beach. There are the occasional collection of rocks, especially in the middle and at the end. If you go paddling, don’t go too close to the rocks as there is the occasional one to stub your toe on in the water, even though it looks like you are a fair distance away. The whole beach slopes down gently (As far as the Cap’n went in – to waist height – anyway).

Visited for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Still quite balmy, although the water was freezing. I let a couple of dog walkers arrive & go, then had the place to myself. Beach is lovely and sandy. Gentle slope to the waterside. It’s at the far end of the beach, so zero passing traffic.
As it is East facing and is at the bottom of a cliff, once the sun starts to descend, it disappears sooner and the temperature drops.
Don’t get caught by the incoming tide. Whilst there is a lot of sand at the naturist section and also the entrance section, there is a rocky outcrop inbetween that blocks dry passage, unless you scramble over the rocks.
