The situation at the top of a spur of land overlooking lake Esparron is spectacular – it is my current background picture. The ground is incredibly hard and stony – bring suitable equipment if pitching a tent – and the tent pitches don’t generally have direct car access so you’ll have to carry your stuff. But the site is great – restaurant open every day for basic food, well-stocked shop (helpful as it is a long way to the nearest supermarket) and the young French owners are welcoming and practice naturism themselves. Multinational visitors – predominantly French, but Dutch, Swiss, British and Danish cars were also visible. The location in the Alpes de Haute Provence means that getting anywhere is usually a slow drive on winding mountain roads, but the countryside is beautiful. Highlights included a boat trip on lake Esparron and a trip to Moustiers Ste Marie (we decided driving the length of the Gorges du Verdon was a bit much). One thing I especially liked was that there is direct access to the lake in two places (albeit a 10-15 minute steep walk), and the water was beautiful to swim in.
